About Access All Areas

Access All Areas is the site I wish existed when I started out humping PA gear into RSLs at nineteen. It's written for anyone who works in, around, or alongside the Australian live music and events industry -- from promoters and venue managers to techs, tour managers, and the poor souls running merch at 2am.

I'm Mick Callahan. I've spent over thirty years in the Australian live entertainment business. Started as a roadie in the early '90s, worked my way up to tour managing national and international acts across every state and territory. I've run festival stages, managed venue operations, and consulted on everything from ticketing rollouts to regional touring logistics. I've loaded in at the Forum, the Enmore, the Tivoli, Festival Hall (RIP), and hundreds of pubs, clubs, and outdoor sites you've never heard of.

These days I write about the business side of live entertainment in Australia. That means ticketing technology, venue regulations, festival economics, touring realities, and the policy decisions that shape whether artists can actually make a living on the road. I also cover the growing role of AI and data in how we run events, sell tickets, and manage audiences.

My perspective is practical. I've been the person standing in the loading dock at 6am wondering why the truck's late and whether the catering rider is going to bankrupt the show. I write with that experience behind every word. No fluff, no press releases rewritten as articles. Just honest takes from someone who's been in the rooms where these decisions get made.

If you work in live music, events, or entertainment in Australia -- or you're thinking about getting into this wild industry -- Access All Areas is your backstage pass to what's really going on.
