 My Festival Experience

British India
Adelaide Big Day Out. We were staying in the same hotel as other artists and I came downstaris to go to the after party and a big crowd was surrounding Aracde Fire and Bjork at the grand piano in the restaurant of the hotel. They were doing old show tunes and everyone was singing along. The lead singer of Arcade Fire was playing piano and everyone was singing along. I recall Buddy Holly's 'Everyday It's Getting Closer', a couple of ABBA songs and some John Lennon, it was very cool. Favourite festivals moments though are just when it's a good show with good reactions, where you don't have to think too much on stage and lose yourself.

Ideal Lineup?
I'd have bands that would never be seen on the same stage because they've long since broken up or died, I'd have Blur opening the festival followed by the Smiths who would reform for my music festival, and At The Drive In would finish the day just when I was drunk enough to dance like they can.

Fave artist you've seen at a Music Festival?
Rage Against The Machine. Also, Brand New who are a vastly under rated band from New York that played at Big Day Out. I saw them pretty much without fail at every Big Day Out and they were astounding, and to use the the cliche, quite inspiring. I've ripped off many of their moves since then!

Tips for attending Music Festivals
Don't break your neck. Don't worry too much about getting to the front for every band you want to see. It's probably better to pick 4 or so that you can really absorb as opposed to having cursory glances at every one. It's like any 'day out' it's best to pace yourself, don't go mental and try to see everything, relax and take it all in.

The Cult bring Love to Australia!

Chugg Entertainment and Sun Touring Company announced today that legendary rock act, THE CULT, will be heading to Australia as part of their “Love” Live Tour, with confirmed dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in May, 2010.

This will be the first time THE CULT has toured Australia in 15 years, last performing as part of the Big Day Out in 1995.

The LOVE album is viewed by fans and world-wide media as The Cult’s pre-eminent release. From the immediately recognizable opening notes of She Sells Sanctuary, through Billy Duffy’s psychedelic guitar strains on Phoenix, to the resolve of Ian Astbury’s haunting baritone on Brother Wolf, Sister Moon, The Cult created an album that manoeuvres as a tour de force.

The Cult “LOVE” Live Tour will showcase the band’s alternative roots as musicians and performers, and is sure to electrify new fans and devotees. Since commencing the tour in mid 2009, the band have performed in diverse venues from the grand scale excitement of London’s Royal Albert Hall, to the intimate setting of Paris’ Le Bataclan, this tour will see the band fulfil the ultimate dream of Cult lovers across the globe, performing the unimaginable; a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness one of alternative rock’s most important records, LOVE, performed in its entirety, live onstage.

"The band is redefining the live album experience with the “LOVE” Live Tour; nothing is comparable to witnessing The Cult, fully engaged in the live creation of arguably their seminal album. For fans this will be the greatest tour yet, and for those just discovering The Cult, this staging will envelop them in a pure performance experience,” stated Cult manager, Tom Vitorino.

The band will take fans through a “best of” finale which will include their greatest hits spanning their storied career. The Cult will deliver spectacular production, along with the intense performances that fans have come to expect and have been working closely with their art/ design team to create an arresting set, with dramatic effects, using state-of-the art technology.

Continuing their historic creative partnership, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy began writing together again in 2001 and have since recorded several songs at The Sunset Marquis Villa Recording Studios, in Los Angeles. Their highly anticipated new tracks will be the follow up to The Cult’s 2007 release, the critically acclaimed, Born Into This.

Tickets for all shows go on sale on Friday, 19 March, 2010. Stay tuned for support act announcements.

Tour dates are:

Monday, 3 May, 2010: The Trust Stadium Arena, Waitakere, New Zealand

If we were hanging with you and your band backstage, what would we be getting up to?
We do this stupid… I don’t know what it is. It’s where you put your hands in the middle and do this little cheer on three. (laughs) It’ll change every night. Usually it will be nerdy and dorky. We’ll see what’s happening in that moment. We’ll do a call out and then we’ll yell… we’ll all do it. We do really nerdy stuff.

If you could request anything on your rider what would it be?
Usually there would be chocolate. I’m addicted to chocolate. I’d be eating that. There’d be red wine.

Give one of your personal favourite bands a plug.
Woo. Actually there’s a new band called Vedera. They’ve got a female singer, kind of 90s inspired. I just find it refreshing. Nowadays it’s all about the pop female singer with crazy stuff going on. That’s a good, melodic rock n roll band.

What's your most essential item to take on tour?
I’ve got to take an extra cell phone charger. I always leave my cell phone chargers in the hotel room. I usually have about three or four in my bag. And extra socks. You get dirty socks and there’s nothing like putting on a dirty sock. You look in your bad and there’s this old pair from last week and you have nothing left. (laughs)

What's your secret talent?
I’m a mad ping-pong player. I’ve got to say I’m a self-proclaimed ping-pong warrior and I typically will have tournaments at my house. I have a machine that serves me balls…like a baseball thrower, a ping-pong thrower and I just hit it. I’m kind of a geek when it comes to ping-pong.

AND... Where are we best to stalk you: MySpace, Facebook or Twitter? Which one's updated the most?
I think twitter is probably the best right now. That’s a unique way of connecting with people. I’d pick twitter.

Down With Webster

Down With Webster a 7-member, genre-bending, musical juggernaut draws on disparate influences to create a wholly original musical feast. Their chaotic live shows are the stuff of local legend, selling 1000+ tickets as headliners in their hometown of Toronto as an indie band before ever releasing a single or video.

The band writes, produces and performs all of their music, garnering attention from industry veterans as varied as Timbaland and KISS front man Gene Simmons, both of whom wanted to sign the band to their respective labels. DWW won the Rogers Mobile/Universal Music best unsigned artist in Canada contest in 2008.
