As Melbourne’s celebrated Dub/Reggae band The Red Eyes gear up for the release of a blockbuster second album, the 7-piece hit the road to launch their new single, a cover of Talking Heads 1983 release I Get Wild / Wild Gravity from their album Speaking in Tongues.
This is a first time cover recording for The Red Eyes and the song was an easy choice for the band who count Talking Heads as up among the top of their varied list of musical influences.
The tempo and style of the track lends itself to the Dub/Reggae groove of The Red Eyes and the song has quickly become a crowd pleaser in their massive live show.
Vocally it was an instant fit with lead singer El Witeri, who also relates to the intricate lyrics. Much has been written about Talking Heads’ songs in an attempt to demystify the message and this song is a classic example of their ability to use innuendo to illuminate the inner workings of the mind. Ultimately, it’s a song about unleashing the wild primal side of civilized man and getting wild... something that The Red Eyes are becoming increasingly renowned for, both on and off stage!
I Get Wild / Wild Gravity will give fans and audiences a little taster from the soon to be released 2nd album, set to eclipse their hugely successful debut album release Rudeworld (2007).
The track will be officially launched in March with a 2 night stand at The Beach Hotel in Byron Bay – the boys are back by popular demand following their epic shows at Woodford Folk Festival and Byron Bay this NYE ‘09/10. Prior to this the band will also head off on a short national tour with New Zealand’s The Black Seeds before returning to their home town of Melbourne to gear up for their National Album Launch Tour in May/June ’10.
