News: Tegan and Sara announce Australian dates!
Canadian twins Tegan and Sara return to Australia in May for a national tour, following the release of their new album ‘Sainthood’ (Warner) last year. ‘Sainthood’ was lavished with acclaim from fans and critics a-like, the first single ‘Hell’ gathering radio spins from alternate and commercial radio around the country.
After years of selling out headline tours and their recent experience in joining the summer festival circuit, which saw them playing to thousands at the Falls Festivals, Southbound and Sunset Sounds in 2008, Tegan and Sara tours have become one of the most anticipated live shows among Aussie music lovers. Their on stage chemistry, incredible musical abilities, infectious pop sensibilities and direct connection with their fans has won hearts all over the world.
In 2010 the girls return with a show full of new songs off ‘Sainthood’, as well as a few crowd favourites.
Joining the girls for his maiden voyage to Australia will be emcee turned indie folkster Astronautalis. The ex-battler, creates a seamless blend where the pugilist becomes the poet, the storyteller becomes the showman, and somehow, strangely, the idea of indie-folk-historical-fiction-hip-hop starts to actually make sense.
Sydney darlings The Jezabels will round out the night’s entertainment, bringing their melodic indie pop sounds to the tour.
Tour dates are:
Tuesday 4 May: The Tivoli, Brisbane, QLD Friday 7 May: Big Top,Sydney, NSW Tuesday 11 May: Forum Theatre, Melbourne, VIC Thursday 13 May: Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide, SA Friday 14 May: Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle, WA
Womadelaide 2010 The Armada, Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, Ethiopiques, Babylon Circus and Ojos de Brujo live @ Botanic Park, Adelaide, SA (5-8 March 2010)
As a band we played the Pyramid Rock Festival at Phillip Island last year, that was a very awesome thing to be a part of. Was so hot you felt like you were going to die but was worth every second.
Ideal Lineup? Reading Festival 92 was a pretty unbeatable lineup, not that I was actually there. Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Mudhoney, Beastie Boys… Say no more!
Tips for attending Music Festivals? Pace yourself, try not to one of those people passed out next to a porta-loo before the sun has even had a chance to go down. All the good stuff happens at night and you’re gonna want to remember most of it. Bands like us love to play festivals because the vibe can be incredible, so yeah… get on it and have a great time, just don’t make an arse of yourself.
