Empire Of The Sun up for 2 Brit Awards!
Empire Of The Sun continue to break new ground internationally with news out today that they have been nominated for International Album and International Breakthrough Act at the 2010 Brit Awards to be held on February 16 at Earls Court Arena in London for their ‘Walking On A Dream’ album.
Luke Steele will fly to London to attend the Awards ceremony on behalf of the band. Amongst the excitement today about the nomination Emperor Steele said, “The dream was the king for this record and it is becoming wilder and wilder as the sandman keeps cooking. This is a great honour, we are walking on a dream.”
If Empire Of The Sun win either of the Awards, they will be the first Australian band to win a BRIT Award since Crowded House in 1994; the only other Australian band to have previously won a BRIT Award was INXS. Outside of Kylie Minogue, no other Australian artist has won a BRIT Award in the past decade.
Last year’s winners of the International Album Award were Kings Of Leon and this year Empire Of The Sun are nominated alongside Jay-Z (on whose album Emperor Steele is a guest artist), Lady Gaga, Animal Collective and Black Eyed Peas.
‘Walking On A Dream’ has surpassed Gold sales in the UK (100,000 albums) and Empire Of The Sun are currently gearing up for a live assault on the UK/Europe summer festival season with dates soon to be announced.
The Empire Of The Sun dominance of the international music scene in the past 12 months ensures their place in Australian music history as one of our most successful exports.
In Australia the ARIA Award winning Album of the Year ‘Walking On A Dream’ has just surpassed double platinum sales and Empire Of The Sun have been blowing audiences away with their live performances which continue in February and March with the national Future Music Festival dates:
Sat 27: Future Music Festival, Turf Club CP Doomben Racecourse, Brisbane Sun 28 February: Future Music Festival, Ascot Racecourse, Perth Sat 6 March: Future Music Festival, Royal Randwick Racecourse, Sydney Sun 7 March: Future Music Festival, Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne Mon 8 March: Future Music Festival, Rundle & Rymill Parks, Adelaide

If we were hanging with you and your band backstage, what would we be getting up to?
Clutch backstage is boring before a show. Mostly we warm up. For me it's page 58 and 59 of Ted Reed's Syncopation. After that I crack a cold one and stretch a bit.
If you could request anything on your rider what would it be?
The usual stuff. Good beer, a few snacks. We get that stuff anyway though. Asking for stupid crap is for amateurs.
Give one of your personal favourite bands a plug.
My favorite live band these days is Kamchatka. Those guys blow doors! They are Swedish so they like to drink beer too. We've done a couple tours with them. Great band!
What's your most essential item to take on tour?
Socks and more socks!
What's your secret talent?
Thanks to the iPhone I am pretty good at finding decent food in almost any town.
AND... Where are we best to stalk you: MySpace, Facebook or Twitter? Which one's updated the most?
None of the above. I don't have time for that stuff. Email is my jam.
New Empire
Since their formation, the Sydney four-piece have constantly been experimenting and fusing different styles to create their original and powerful brand of music. New Empire's high energy and powerful live show combined with their heartfelt and honest music makes them one of Sydney's most popular new bands. Awoe magazine has described New Empire as "the essentials of the rock pop culture", and this is clearly echoed by thousands of music lovers across the country.
Forming in the late Summer of 2003, Euphoria Audio are a Rock/Popular band from Wakefield, UK. They have worked closely with producers Stuart Epps (Oasis, Robbie Williams, Jimmy Page) and Steve Levine (Culture Club, The Beach Boys), and most recently have recorded in Trondheim, Norway with Universals D-sign Music (Kylie Minogue, Joe Cocker).
In 2010 the band showcased at the Musexpo music conference in Los Angeles in front of world-wide delegates as well as a performance at the legendary Viper Room.
