News: Ja Rule hits Sydney for one show date only!
Ja Rule, the talented artist & actor is one of the most successful rappers of all time. To date, he has sold over 35 million albums worldwide and has performed in concerts to adoring fans all over the world for the last decade. He has won MTV Awards, Source Hip-Hop Awards, World Music Awards, BET Awards and been nominated for various Grammys. Sydney fans will get the rare opportunity to see the hip hop legend live when he comes to Australia for one show only on Saturday July 25th @ Big Top, Luna Park.
As the flagship artist for producer Irv Gotti’s Def Jam-affiliated Murder Inc. label, Ja Rule became one of the rap industry’s most commercially successful artists during the early 2000’s, working closely with the hitmaking producer and his stable of talent. Ja Rule established himself with “Venni Vetti Vecci” (1999), a hardcore debut album similar in style to the rugged thug rap then popularized by DMX and the Ruff Ryder collective. On his second album “Rule 3:36” (2000), he began collaborating with female R&B singers, and a string of radio-friendly hits ensued. “Pain is Love” (2001) followed the same template, serving up a few rap-R&B hybrids for the singles, and filling out the album with rap.
Throughout the summer of 2002, Ja Rule was at his most popular, featured on not only his own hits but also as a featured guest on Fat Joe’s smash hit “What’s Luv” and Mary J Blige’s “Rainy Dayz”. Near the end of the year, he released his fourth album, “The Last Temptation” (2002), which again paired him with R&B vocalists for its singles, this time with Bobby Brown and Ashanti.
2003 saw him release “Blood In My Eye”, and “R.U.L.E” was released in 2004 which featured the hit single “Wonderful”, a rap-R&B hybrid featuring R.Kelly and Ashanti. 2005 went on to see the release of “Exodus”, and 2009 “The Mirror: Reloaded”.
Ja Rule’s commercial success reaches far beyond the music studio. He has been a pitchman for Calvin Klein and Coca-Cola, and has appeared in various movies including “Fast And the Furious”, “Scary Movie 3”, “Assault on Precinct 13”, and “The Cookout”.
See Ja Rule perform all his hits including “Livin It Up”, “Always On Time”, “I’m Real”, “Thug Lovin”, “Mesmerize”, “Clap Back”, “Wonderful” and heaps more!

Well I guess the most memorable would be in 2005 when we played the first Australian Taste Of Chaos festival. It was the first night in Perth & the venue was like five or seven thousand & we were sure we’d be pretty unknown. We got up on stage & started playing & then we noticed the crowd & saw that pretty much everyone was singing the songs & we were like “did we sell all our cds in perth or something?”, so that was pretty memorable for me personally. Also playing the Warped tour in America, its like a 2 month travelling township or something, you play shows go hang out & then travel like a thousand miles & start over. There’s been other experiences, but those are probably the standouts for me.
Ideal Lineup? Well for me I would have to say Nine Inch Nails who I saw at Redding the other year when they played before The Smashing Pumpkins. The set was just amazing & I’m not really even a fan of the band, but the set was just something they really play great. Also I’d probably say Killswitch Engage they are a great band & are good friends of mine, we toured Australia with them on our first tour & made good friends with them & yeah they just play great music & are great musicians I guess. There’s others I think but those would be the 2 I’d say off the top of my head.
Tips for attending Music Festivals? Well I guess just drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, stay out of the way of trouble & really just look after yourself & anyone who gets in trouble that you know & you should have a pretty good day.
