One music festival acknowledging the impact of the world financial crisis and bringing the issue to the forefront of pop culture is Gold Coast New Year’s Eve party, Odyssey NYE ’09, who this week launched a catchy new price category entitled the ‘Recession Buster Rate’.
With the emergence of new summer music festivals popping up this year more than ever, Odyssey have taken charge and rather than shy away from the issue, have used the recession as an opportunity to highlight the value-for-money that its New Year’s Eve party at Carrara Stadium offers by dropping its drinks-inclusive price down from $150 to $130 plus booking fee.
Odyssey NYE ’09 will be responsible for bringing seven time ARIA and MTV award winners, Jet, back to Australia to headline at the event that, this year, outgrew its old stomping ground of Dreamworld.
The boys from Jet, who have not performed live since the 2007 AFL grand final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, will return to the stage at Odyssey NYE ’09 along with other big names including Grinspoon, The Butterfly Effect, Bliss n Eso, Something with Numbers, Phrase, Juke Kartel, Pez, Malente, Sam La More and Jimmy Z.
Nic Cester, lead singer from Jet is looking forward to their New Year’s Eve performance.
“We can’t wait to play at Odyssey, it will be a very special performance for us because it’s been over a year since we’ve been in Australia together and this will be our only show for a while.
“We want to be at the Gold Coast just as much as anyone else, who wouldn’t want to be there with sunny beaches, girls, great atmosphere, its going to be an awesome party.”
But even with a star-studded lineup, and a drinks-inclusive ticket price, event organisers have still generously decided to drop the price for a limited time to give people the opportunity the enjoy a rich New Year’s Eve celebration. |
