 My Festival Experience

The Panics
One of the best was Splendor In The Grass a couple of years back when we had just released our album cruel guards. I just remember this massive circus tent overflowing with people singing along, people on each others shoulders, just great atmosphere.

Worst Festival Experience?
Remember being very young and losing my friends, and my shoes at a festival in Perth. I had to climb a tree out the front and wait for them and try and spot them on the way out, and someone threw a chicken at me!

Do you remember going to you first festival? What was it like? (How old were you? Who did you go with? Who did you see? What did you wear?)
I remember going to festivals with my guitarist Drew when we were teenagers. I think the earliest was one called sommersault in perth, I was about fourteen and remember Beck playing. I think we probably had pink hair and army pants like everyone else that day! I remember kissing a girl, I was pretty stoked with that because I remember drew did not kiss a girl...ha!

What festival essentials do you always bring with you? Or are there certain rituals you always do or things you always check out?
I dont bring many valuables because I lose them often... including guitars!

Best and worst things you’ve seen people wear at a festival?
I've seen people nude, generally that goes in the 'worst' bin. white dresses with red wine stains down the front are a favourite.seen a guy passed out in a tux on a forty degree day, I enjoy that too.

Funniest thing someone has come up to you and said at a festival or silliest behaviour you’ve witnessed?
I've seen people fall out of trees. I remember a guy in a bin wearing lipstick laughing his head off, thats pretty weird. ive had a guy come on stage when we were playing, put his arm around me and just stand there giving the crowd a thumbs up and a big smile for a song, that was pretty strange.

ARIA Music Awards

First round presenters announced for ARIA Awards!

With the 2009 ARIA Awards now just days away, ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) is excited to announce the initial lineup of presenters who will be joining the stellar cast for the evening’s ceremony and celebrations. A highlight on the entertainment calendar and one of this country’s biggest Awards nights, the 2009 ARIA Awards event is set to take place this Thursday 26 November at Acer Arena in Sydney and promises to be a spectacular event being staged ‘In the Round’ for the first time.

Stepping up alongside the ARIA Awards hosts Gyton Grantley and Kate Ritchie will be some of this country’s finest music artists, including the darling of Australian pop music and multi ARIA Award winner, Missy Higgins. After touring her album On a Clear Night throughout the USA in 2009, she returns to Sydney and the ARIA Awards, this time on other side of the dais as an Award presenter.

Touted as one of Australia’s sexiest people and winner of the ‘Favourite Female Personality’ at the 2009 ASTRA Awards, Sydney’s “It girl” of the moment, Ruby Rose will take time out from her MTV hosting duties to present at the ARIA Awards. Joining Ruby will be guitar wunderkind Orianthi. No stranger to the big stage, at 24 years of age she has played with the likes of Steve Vai and Carlos Santana. Most recently she was invited a member of Michael Jackson’s band for the “This Is It” tour. Together Ruby Rose and Orianthi will present the ARIA for Best Urban Release.

Bathing in the success of two-platinum singles and her chart topping debut solo album 1000 Stars alongside an acclaimed turn as host of So You Think You Can Dance for the last two seasons, Natalie Bassingthwaighte will lend her star-power to the evening’s proceedings. And the roll call of exceptional ladies from the Australian music scene continues with Melburnian songstress Vanessa Amorosi on board to grace the stage at this year’s ARIAs. Amorosi has recently achieved her very first number one ARIA chart single “This is Who I Am”, from her brand new album Hazardous.

One of the country’s most loved singers, Guy Sebastian will also appear at the event. His recently released single from the album of the same name, “Like It Like That” has given the pop hero his fourth number one single in Australia whilst the album has ensured Guy his fifth consecutive top 10 album result.

And last but certainly not least, we are proud to announce that one of this country’s favourite rock bands, who have racked up a massive total of fifteen ARIA Awards over the years, Powderfinger will join the 2009 line up to present the ARIA Award for Best Group. They’ve just released their sixth studio album Golden Rule, which has landed straight at number one on today’s ARIA Album Chart, and from it the first single and rebel yell of “All of the Dreamers”.

These presenters will join the crème de la crème of Australian music artists confirmed to perform at the 2009 ARIA Awards: The Temper Trap, Sarah Blasko, Kate Miller-Heidke, Lisa Mitchell, Empire of The Sun, Ladyhawke, Hilltop Hoods, Jessica Mauboy, Keith Urban and one and only Robbie Williams.

The 2009 ARIA Awards will be the telecast on the Nine Network from 8.30 on the evening of Thursday, 26 November, followed by an encore screening on MTV on Friday, 27 November at 5.30pm.

If we were hanging with you and your band backstage, what would we be getting up to?
Probably a few pushups, some weights, sit-ups, stretches and just amping up. We like to keep fit so we get pumped before a show working out.

If you could request anything on your rider what would it be?
The same thing I always ask for…Orange Gatorade and American chocolate, it’s the best!! (So no portable Jacuzzi??) nah man…but it might be from now on!!

Give one of your personal favourite bands a plug.
Two from Memphis hard ass rocking bands…Cavo and Sawash…check em out

What's your most essential item to take on tour?
My computer man…..I can escape, work, communicate or whatever. I need my computer everywhere I go!!

What's your secret talent?
HAHAHAHAH….I don’t have one….I like to cook but I’m not real good!

AND... Where are we best to stalk you: MySpace, Facebook or Twitter? Which one's updated the most?
All of em, we use all of them. We have both personal and Shinedown Facebooks, Myspace and Twitter and we are on them all the time…obsessively…

Down With Webster

Down With Webster a 7-member, genre-bending, musical juggernaut draws on disparate influences to create a wholly original musical feast. Their chaotic live shows are the stuff of local legend, selling 1000+ tickets as headliners in their hometown of Toronto as an indie band before ever releasing a single or video.

The band writes, produces and performs all of their music, garnering attention from industry veterans as varied as Timbaland and KISS front man Gene Simmons, both of whom wanted to sign the band to their respective labels. DWW won the Rogers Mobile/Universal Music best unsigned artist in Canada contest in 2008.
