Empire Of The Sun bag three ARIA Artisan & Fine Arts Awards!

Anticipation around Empire Of The Sun’s recent live shows saw the band deliver “one of the most stunning debut live performances ever” (Zan Rowe, Triple J), and as anticipation now grows around the band’s upcoming ARIA Awards performance and nominations they are off to a brilliant start after receiving three awards at today’s ARIA Artisan & Fine Arts Awards.

Emperor Luke Steele said from his home in Perth, "This record production was like quad chemistry, Mayes with the magic ear, Skittles, Sloan and Steele offering special ingredients. 4 scientists, 1 microscope,1formula."

Also acknowledged today were the creative visual team who work tirelessly alongside Empire Of The Sun to create and deliver the unique artwork and video clips that have become a synonymous part of the band’s image. Both Debaser and Mathematics have been part of The Empire family since the beginning and the stunning visuals they have created have taken on a life of their own and become almost as much of a talking point as the music itself.

Other winners include Hilltop Hoods, You Am I, and Katie Noonan.

Winners are:

Best Cover Art
Aaron Hayward & David Homer – Debaser – Empire Of The Sun, Walking On A Dream

Best Video
Josh Logue for Mathematics – Empire Of The Sun, Walking On A Dream

Engineer of the Year
Note two equal winners:

DJ Debris – Hilltop Hoods, State Of The Art
Greg Wales – You Am I, Dilettantes

Producer of the Year
Empire Of The Sun and Donnie Sloan with Peter Mayes – Empire Of The Sun, Walking on A Dream

Best Classical Album
Australian Brandenburg Orchestra/Paul Dyer – Handel: Concerti Grossi Opus 6

Best Jazz Album
Katie Noonan – Blackbird

Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album
Soundtrack – Balibo (ABC Music/Universal Music Australia)

Best World Music Album
Seaman Dan – Sailing Home (Steady Steady Music/MGM)

The countdown is now on, with less than three weeks to go until the ARIA Awards roll around on Thursday 26 November at Acer Arena in Sydney, a night that promises to dazzle with special musical performances from some of Australia’s leading entertainers and international superstar Robbie Williams. This year’s Awards ceremony will be hosted by leading personalities Kate Ritchie and Gyton Grantley, and staged ‘In the Round’ for the first time, giving fans a chance to see their favourite artists from a new and unique perspective.

If we were hanging with you and your band backstage, what would we be getting up to?
An interesting display of acrobatics as we stretch before the show. It usually involves weird push ups, slightly awkward stretches, and dancing with our guitars.

If you could request anything on your rider what would it be?
an enormous selection of pizza toppings, and an old Italian man and his oven to assemble and cook the most amazing pizzas in the world right in front of us.

Give one of your personal favourite bands a plug.
Emery... a very underated band from the UK.. they write some of the most amazing lyrics i have ever heard.

What's your most essential item to take on tour?
other than our guitars.,, deodorant, sunglasses... and knives and forks.... nothing worse than being stinky, having the sun in your eyes, and not being able to eat your pasta salad.

What's your secret talent?
cooking instant noodles...

AND... Where are we best to stalk you: MySpace, Facebook or Twitter? Which one's updated the most?
We have them all! but Myspace is the place to go for your updates and you can listen to our music for free!

Down With Webster
9 votes for HOT
4 votes for NOT
Down With Webster a 7-member, genre-bending, musical juggernaut draws on disparate influences to create a wholly original musical feast. Their chaotic live shows are the stuff of local legend, selling 1000+ tickets as headliners in their hometown of Toronto as an indie band before ever releasing a single or video.

The band writes, produces and performs all of their music, garnering attention from industry veterans as varied as Timbaland and KISS front man Gene Simmons, both of whom wanted to sign the band to their respective labels. DWW won the Rogers Mobile/Universal Music best unsigned artist in Canada contest in 2008.
