With the Beijing Olympics almost upon us it’s somewhat apt that Perth rockers Gyroscope kick off their national tour of Australia with a gold album under their belt! ‘Breed Obsession’ has spawn hits such as ‘Snakeskin’, ‘1981’ and of course their most recent single ‘Australia’ and highlights a band who’ve grown and matured and are confident enough to convey a more eclectic sound without loosing the core and strength they’re renowned for.
The band with special guests Shihad and Sugar Army began their Australia tour last night in Cairns.
The show was by all accounts a pearler!
Of the gold album, lead singer Daniel Sanders said today, “As a collective we are most proud of this record, we know it represents us 100%. The entire process from writing to recording ‘Breed Obsession’ was a pleasure and to have it go gold is very rewarding. We thank all our fans for their support and look forward to seeing them all on the Australia tour.”
Gyroscope’s current single, the emotive ‘Australia’, is featuring on Channel 9’s on air promo’s for the final series of the hugely popular TV show Mc Leod’s Daughters and ‘Snakeskin’ - their first single from the album is being used as the bedding track for the AFL football advertising campaign right through and including the footy finals.
In June Gyroscope, set off for a ten day writing session at Managing Director of the Mushroom Group of companies, Michael Gudinski’s house in Mt Macedon, located an hour outside Melbourne. This being the same house where Elton John and Fleetwood Mac have conducted writing sessions when they’ve been in Australia and apparently our own Kylie has spent time there as well! Gudinski is a big fan of the band and in particular the new single ‘Australia’ so much so the band have now inked a deal with Mushroom publishing.
In other more recent news, Gyroscope’s drummer Rob Nassif took to national TV screens as a co host, along side the ever effervescent Miss Jane Gazzo, for Channel [V]’s popular ‘WhatUWant’ show, those shows aired last week and word is that Channel [V] execs were well impressed and could be keen to get more on screen action from Rob.
SHIHAD’s latest single the title track from their ‘Beautiful Machine’ album has just hit radio desks and TV screens. Their seventh studio album debuted at #1 in New Zealand and #11 on the Australian album chart. With the band celebrating 20 years at it, SHIHAD will be sure to impress when they join Gyroscope on the Australia tour.
Sugar Army recently put a little time aside to start pre-production for their debut album due for release next year. Be sure you get to the shows early to catch these openers as they deliver one hell of an electrifying set. With further plans to record their debut album post the Australia tour this could well be the last chance for East Coast dwellers, in particular, to catch a live performance from this exciting new Perth band for sometime.
After their mammoth run on the Australia tour Gyroscope will transport themselves across the Tasman with a tour of New Zealand. Be sure to get in now before tickets for the Australia tour are all snapped up!
