Parkway Drive

The second artist line up for the Sounds of Spring festival has been announced and will feature British India, Parkway Drive, Resin Dogs, Behind Crimson Eyes, Rocket Science, Children Collide, Final Days Of Autumn, Blue Juice, Trial Kennedy, Calling All Cars, Laura Imbruglia, The John Steel Singers, Vegas Kings and The Mercy Dolls.

With an already impressive first line-up, these acts will be joined by Cog, Spiderbait, The Herd, Dukes of Windsor, The Getaway Plan, Dappled Cities, Muph & Plutonic, The Spazzy’s, The Dirty Secrets, Young & Restless, Epicure, Screamfeeder, The Gin Club, The Galvatrons, Intercooler, Root (ex Tism) and Mary Trembles

Melbourne three piece, British India gained high rotation on Triple J and Rage with their first album Guillotine. It was nominated for a 2007 J Award and in December they had won the AIR Award for Best New Independent Artist. Currently on a 26 date national tour, the band are promoting their upcoming album Thieves and are scheduled to perform at Splendour In the Grass and The Lair on MTV.

With acclaimed reviews by Rolling Stone, Kerrang and Blunt Magazine, Parkway Drive is a leading force in Australian mental rock. The five piece has toured the U.S, Europe and United Kingdom, alongside artists as Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die and Suicide Silence. Their 2007 album Horizon debuted at 6 on the ARIA Charts and gained no. 1 on the Australian Artist Chart and Independent Chart.

Hip Hop funkateers Resin Dogs are a force to be reckoned with, as their third album More was labeled as Triple J’s feature album in December and recently earned no.1 on the Australian Itunes Hip Hop charts. This Brisbane band has also won three Australian Dance Music awards and they have performed at numerous sell-out festivals including Livid, Homebake, Big Day Out and Woodford.

Melbourne heavy rock band, Behind Crimson Eyes had featured on the Big Day Out tour earlier this year, playing alongside Rage Against the Machines, Silverchair and Grinspoon. Recently they supported legendary British mental band, Iron Maiden and opened three shows on the Somewhere Back In Time World Tour.

Quoted as the “best live band in the world” by Uncut Magazine, Rocket Science has toured with the likes of The Dirtbombs, The Vines and The Darkness. This Melbourne band’s credits include the prestigious Reading & Leeds festivals and Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival.

Freshly returned from LA, Children Collide has finished recording their debut album set for release in October. With the release of their first single Social Currency due in July, you can expect to hear a taste of the forthcoming album at Sounds of Spring.

Having recently headlined Brisbane’s Massive Sound Festival in June, Brisbane supergroup, Final Days of Autumn features Clint Boge as well as members from Resin Dogs and Shifter. These lads will showcase an impressive mixture of genres and a rich melding of influences.

Blue Juice has scored high rotation on Triple J with Vitriol being the second most played track on Triple J in 2007 and voted no. 11 in the 2007 Hottest 100. Scheduled to perform at Splendour In The Grass this party-orientated rock, hip hop, electro and disco group will bring their unique sound to Brisbane playing tracks from their album Problems.

Released in May, Trial Kennedy’s album New Manic Art has been gaining solid reviews and praise from fans and industry alike. The album has been described as “contender for album of the year” by Beat Magazine and the lads are currently promoting it through their Wake Up The Neighbours tour.

Calling all Cars single Hey You from their self-titled EP was ranked fourth most played song of the week on Triple J earlier this year. The Melbourne trio has supported Gyroscope, Trial Kennedy, Kisschasy and recently Shihad.

Only just promoting her debut self titled album in Europe, Laura Imbruglia is known for her quirky pop style that is a mixture of classic pop with punk attitude. This Sydney singer-songwriter has graced the stage of Homebake and supported acts like Josh Pyke and Bob Evans. Her video clip for “Looking For A Rabbit” was the third most voted for Australian clip of 2007 on J TV.

One of Brisbane’s most promising indie bands The John Steel Singers has performed alongside Limbeck (USA), The Panics and Something For Kate. Known for their combination of pop melodies and catchy hooks, this six piece will showcase new tunes from their recent mini LP release The Beagle & The Dove, at Sounds of Spring.

Brisbane band, Vegas Kings was quoted by Blunt Magazine as a band “who know how to play it sweaty, loud and mean”. They have completed numerous east coast Australian tours and have played with the likes of The Drones, Screamfeeder and The Mess Hall.

Described by Rave Magazine as the band that will soon be on “everyones lips”, Brisbane five-piece, The Mercy Dolls will bring their moody rock to Sounds Of Spring.

Spring brings new life to Brisbane’s music scene with the birth of the inaugural Sounds of Spring Festival featuring 40 rock, hip-hop, electro, roots, punk and indie artists over four stages at the RNA Showgrounds on Saturday 11, October.
