The buzz about Katy Perry - in particular the boundary pushing lyrics on her debut album ‘One Of The Boys’ - has this week seen the US star break an Australian chart record by remaining at #1 on the Motorola ARIA charts for the sixth week in a row with the platinum single ‘I Kissed A Girl’.
It’s the longest time that any single has stayed at the top of the charts this year and is one of the longest running #1 singles of the decade alongside hits from Eminem, Rihanna featuring Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake, R.Kelly, Evanescence, Avril Lavigne and Shakira.
‘I Kissed A Girl’ has also reached the top of the US and UK charts.
The US story for Katy is huge with the album already going gold, ‘I Kissed A Girl’ selling 2 million downloads and Katy being nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards - Best Female Artist and Best New Artist.
The news comes ahead of Katy’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ performance of ‘I Kissed A Girl’, due to air in Australia this Thursday August 21 at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
On the back of the Australian only bonus track release and iTunes exclusive release of ‘One Of The Boys’ the new single ‘Hot N Cold’ will be at Australian radio next week. In the US ‘Hot N Cold’ has already been added to major US radio stations, including New York's Z100, well ahead of the official September 8 radio impact date. |
