Following 2006’s sellout event, Odyssey NYE returned in full swing to bring in the new year that is 2008… and if you weren’t there, you quite possibly missed THE party of the year. The drinks were flowing, the bands were rocking and at times the rain was poaring, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the 7,500 revelers that came to rock out at Dreamworld this New Years Eve.
Dreamworld was without a doubt the Southern Hemisphere’s most thrilling party-playground, featuring three arenas and five hours of Australia’s hottest live acts. The Getaway Plan kicked off the festivities on the Claw Stage playing one of the band’s most entertaining and energetic sets I’ve seen… this Melbourne four-piece demanded attention!
Over on the Tiger Island stage, and Small Mercies ripped up their set belting out their emotionally charged melodies including both hit singles, ‘Innocent’ and ‘Sorry’. From the rock stage to the dance floor, we head on over to the Waverider Stage, and the party was just getting started with Gerry Morales, Baby Gee, Deepface – a highlight of the night, and The Potbelleez.
Back to the Tiger Island stage, and one of the most-hyped bands of the year took centre stage, none other than Melbourne band Kisschasy who spent a good part of the year on the road. The four-piece stired up a music frenzy amongst the, now, drunken revelers dancing crazily in the muddy arena. The Melbourne rockers churned out a a string of hits from both album with crowd favourites ‘Spray On Pants’ and ‘Opinions Won’t Keep You Warm At Night’. Definitely one of the highlights of the event!
Over at the Claw Stage, Melbourne hard-rockers Behind Crimson Eyes got straight into it with heavy guitars and great screaming exciting the mass hardcore onlookers. The bands mix of metalcore and reminiscent to that of old school rock n roll was a refreshing change in style and the band highly entertaining.
Now with midnight fast approaching, Thirsty Merc hit the stage kicking off a massive set with party revelers as more and more congregate to the stage in preparation of welcoming in a fresh new year. Belting out their hottest hits including “The Hard Way”, “Those Eyes” and “Someday, Someday” then stopping mid-set the band excitedly made the countdown all had come for, and as the new year dawned the band thrashed back in to their top 10 single, platinum selling, ’20 Good Reasons’.
There was no better way to bring in the new year than at Odyssey 08, so if you missed out last year.... plan early this year! Click here to view the photos |
