I have to admit, before arriving at Good charlotte, I had just about already made judgment on the concert, and this clearly is not the way to go about things, but hey.. it’s Good Charlotte.. right? Wrong. As it turned out, it was an awesome show. Rod Laver Arena’s face was quite bare as I strolled into the venue, it was clear that a lot of the teen crowd were here far earlier than I to see Kisschasy and The Hot Lies, not bad for just the supporting acts.. I caught a bit of Kisschasy, and they were alright, but nothing spectacular. Those thoughts I had earlier about prejudging a gig, were not helped as I saw the one of the tackiest sets (props and all that jazz) I’ve seen in a while… picture this, 10 cheap stage lights pointing out to the crowd on poles, and 3 large metal steps… I mean surely you can afford a little more than this… Anyway, enough of the negatives… After an obligatory 20-something tries at the Mexican wave, the atmosphere of Rod Laver Arena buzzed as a large white sheet covered the front of the stage (this seems to be the thing to do right now? Manson? AFI?). As the sheet dropped, the crowd erupted into a fairly piercing constant scream, which was persistent for much of the gig. Opening with Misery, the crowd erupted as smash hit Anthem was belted out by the Madden brothers. Good Charlotte defiantly catered for all fans both new and old as they played hits such Predictable and I Just Wanna Live and the not so old Victims of Love. The two brothers definitely bantered on quite a bit as they spoke of their love for Australia, the War in Iraq and various other “important issues” Breaking the trend of most bands these days, Good Charlotte chose not to do the planned encore and closed the set with Lifestyles to finish an amazing night. |
