ARTIST INTERVIEW
Access All Areas.net.au: So tell us your story thus far, how you got to where you are now?
Reveler: We are at where we are now because we love what we do, we have never slowed down or stopped... playing LIVE, recording, writing, practicing the whole thing. Our mindset has been pretty consitent throughout our career thus far, to be professional and give everything we do 100% effort and committment. REVELER is the newest form the band has taken in our 7 year history and it's a formula that definitely works. Previously Retrospect, we received acclaim at the Qld Rock Awards, played live on channel V some big name support slots around Sth East Qld, like The Living End, Eskimo Joe, Thirsty Merc. Jess and I have been performing together since we were only 12 and 13 we have grown up in this industry. We realise experience is everything and we still have a big road ahead.

Access All Areas.net.au: Do you feel you have more control over your career as an independent singer/songwriter?
Reveler: Yeah definitely, we have total control over the shows we want to play and everything. We are a self-managed act so we need to have our hands on everything so we don't steer out of control. Saying that, it is so hard also... we have to compete with Promoters, bands, venues to build our profile. Most of these guys specialise in that field. No-one can even spell the band name right!!! We are looking for someone to help out on the managment side so we can concentrate on winning the crowd over with a sweet LIVE show.

Access All Areas.net.au: Can you tell us a bit about your music?
Reveler: The music finds its basis in well structured and lyrically satisfying song writing. We have a distinguishable sound, with brother-sister harmonies, 3-piece alternative ROCK backing... but cool songs. We have a nice balance between big power pop chorus to guitar driven, grinding rock hooks!

Access All Areas.net.au: And how about your latest release?
Reveler: This particular EP is mainly aimed at letting everyone know we have changed... from Retrospect to REVELER, from young quirky pop rockers to a more musically matured alternative / edgy new rock band. The songs were recorded a while ago, but it was definitely a transistional time of writing for me and the signs of a new direction in sound for the band. We recorded with a mate, so we took our time and the atmosphere was great. Even though, when we started recording this disc we were still Retrospect I knew that there were some exciting new changes ahead. It is purely a taste tester for some more exciting material to come.

Access All Areas.net.au: How would you choose to describe your music to someone who was unfamiliar with it?
Reveler: We are the kind of band that you would buy the CD cause the songs catchy and crank it up in your car stereo on the highway, singing at the top of your lungs with all your mates as your cruisin down to Byron- and get those same mates together to see us LIVE for a very energetic, hard hitting rock set to mosh to , feel positive about rock music and a sense of liberation.

Access All Areas.net.au: Which artists are you and/or your music influenced by?
Reveler: Silverchair, Foo Fighters, Incubus, The living End, Shihad, Thirsty Merc

Access All Areas.net.au: What has been the major highlight or highpoint for you thus far?
Reveler: We seriously have had a few. Supporting the Living End at Gold Coast Uni... we had such a great reaction from the crowd to our music, and partying with the Living End boys! Playing LIVE on Channel V, infront of a massive schoolies week crowd and across Australia when the music bus rolled in to Surfers Paradise! Flying to perth for The National final of the UNi Battle of the bands.

Access All Areas.net.au: When a fan goes to one of your shows, what can they expect?
Reveler: 100% dedication to putting on a memorable show. Rocking out! Big, Loud, Fun! You will be singing one of our songs on your way home.

Access All Areas.net.au: What has been a major stepping stone for getting you where you are today?
Reveler: Each big gig that we have done has better prepared us for the next. When we flew to Perth we all gained a sense of fullfillment in wanting this to be a full-time job. That has helped us continue to give our all every show and keep that dream alive.

Access All Areas.net.au: What are your plans from here?
Reveler: From here we have a very busy gig schedule ahead, we are wanting to refine our current set, so its top notch for recording toward the end of the year. Hopefully you will see the new REVELER EP everywhere early 2006. We will be following up that release with a busy tour schedule and head interstate. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
REVELER are a three-piece Melodic Rock Band from Brisbane.

REVELER previously Retrospect formed in August, 1999. Retrospect received recognition for fast becoming a standout in the south east Queensland music scene, with frequent energetic shows in and around Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. The band have been pro-actively building their profile to establish them as a professional act in the music industry.

The music has been described as a commercial based sound with strong brother/sister harmonies, catchy melodies and a solid structure developed from different forms of rock. Very tight and energetic, it is guitar driven and diverse from one song to the next.

Retrospect have been selected for countless support slots for top Australian Acts such as; The Living End, Killing Heidi, Taxiride, Spiderbait, Rhubarb, Pollyanna, Plunja, Jebediah, Spiderbait, Sunk LOTO, Invertigo, The Androids, The Screaming Jets, Gerling, Thirsty Merc, Eskimo Joe. The diversity of Retrospect music allows them to comfortably suit many different acts and their professionalism and quality of performance has led them to some of Brisbane’s and the Gold Coast’s best venues, including; The Arena, The Zoo, The Waterloo Hotel, The Rev, Surfers Paradise Beergarden and the Troccadero Entertainment Centre.

August 2001saw Retrospect compete against over 190 bands to emerge as winners of the Qld Rock Awards, a prestigious rock band competition that had been running for over 30 years.

In November 2001, Retrospect performed live across Australia and New Zealand on Channel [V] when the Music bus rolled into Surfers Paradise. They performed their track “Screaming Softly” in front of a massive schoolies week audience and were also interviewed. Highlights of Retrospect were replayed several times over the following weeks.

In May 2000 Retrospect released their debut EP “Fallen into Place” with distribution through BMG. The band’s second release, another 5-track EP “Sent / Hayley” produced by Caleb James (Rhubarb/Leo nine) came in October 2002 making the mark for Retrospect, the Brisbane music scene in particular. The two A-sides from the EP received radio play on a number of community radio stations as well as being featured on Triple M’s “Made in Vegas” show. The track “Hayley” was selected for the Timeoff magazine compilation CORE SAMPLE in 2003, a collection of South East Qld’s hottest unsigned acts and the track “Sent” was chosen for yet another unsigned band compilation in 2004 The EMERGING COCKTAIL.

After a line-up change introducing Andrew Tooley on Drums, Retrospect exploded back onto the live scene winning the Gold Coast leg of The 2004 National Campus Band Competition and went on to represent Qld when they flew to Perth in October to play the National Final.

This year is the birth of REVELER and a self titled Debut EP recorded at the Conservatorium Of Music on the Gold Coast with friend and producer Ben Crawford. The band are now very active on the Brisbane and Gold Coast live scene, defining the new formula and maintaining their strong profile as a unique alternative rock band. REVELER were featured as Local Headliners at the Fallout Festival held at Logan Entertainment Centre in April.

 My Festival Experience

Sneaky Sound System
It’s too hard to pick one, we love festivals. In no particular order: Playing the big Dance Arena at Glastonbury 2008, Main Stage Good Vibrations 2007, Splendour in the Grass 2007, Big Day Out 2009...I could go on and on.

What would be your Ideal Lineup?
One stage with David Bowie, Queen (we’d have to bring Freddie back from the dead), Daft Punk, The Cure, Bloc Party, Prince & Bon Jovi (yes, Bon Jovi). There would be DJ sets in between by Sven Vath, Boys Noize and me old mate Ajax.

Favourite artist you've seen at a Music Festival? Daft Punk, David Bowie & Bloc Party

What are your tips for attending Music Festivals?
Enter with an open mind and leave with a twisted one.
