| Interview | Access All Areas.net.au: You boys are soon to head over to America to record with J.T. Meskiel. How excited are you? Resin Dogs: It hasn’t really sunk in yet but its definitely exciting for the possibilities that can come out of this, we cant wait to get into the actual studio especially one like the Document Room with all the great gear and desks and knowledge they have over there can only make our sound even better
Access All Areas.net.au: In the past, Meskiel has worked with people like people like Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani. Can we expect a new sound from the Resin Dogs? Resin Dogs: I’m sure he will bring out the best that we have and possibly show us a thing or too while we are there. When we spoke on the phone he was pretty into the whole thing and has already asked us to stay longer than the 3 days so we can get more work done. Who know he may pick up the phone and invite Gwen or Britney in to check out a tune of 2. As I said who knows what can happen once we step into the studio and get started. We are more then ready to go with the flow, bring it on, myself and Dave would write music for Gwen or Britney any day it can only help us out.
Access All Areas.net.au: You’re playing some shows in Australia at the start of March. What can punters expect from some of these shows? Resin Dogs: A bit of the new stuff for all the new fans and a bit of the old stuff for the older fans – we will be bringing a dope show with us as always. We always try and chop and change the shows, as we have so much material to choose from that we have been performing here and across Europe. We really like to make every show different in some way so people are not ever seeing the same show twice, so yeh we are bringing the best show we can.
Access All Areas.net.au: Resin Dogs have played at almost every Australian music festival. When you arrive back home, can we expect to see you hit the road again? Resin Dogs: Yes will be starting a 26 date national tour starting on the 3rd of April in Armidale and will be going everywhere except Ramsey street…
Access All Areas.net.au: One of the things included in this Competition from Document Room Studios is that they will shop the final result around to record companies, management companies and publishers. Do you guys think that this could be a big break for the Resin Dogs in North America? Resin Dogs: I hope so, you can never be certain. But this way we probably have a better chance than if we went over to shop our stuff – when a 6 time Grammy award winning producer presents your material to the contacts he has, I’m sure people will listen to him and the record. I thing there is a great chance for a positive outcome whether it be a record deal, production deal or publishing deal where we are writing for other artists or scoring sound tracks the possibility is there.
Access All Areas.net.au: What are you guys currently listening to? Resin Dogs: I can’t speak for Dave but when I get a chance I listen to lots of old school jazz, funk reggae and world music with hip hop influences. That said, I have been writing a fair bit these days, so I haven’t had a good listen to anything in a while. We have also been busy doing remixing for the Bird / Def Wish Cast / Muph & Plutonic, as well as also for us. I received the new Chasm but haven’t had a chance to listen to it all.
Access All Areas.net.au: After Australian rock bands have become well received overseas, do you think it’s time that Australian hip-hop/funk should be the same? Resin Dogs: Let’s hope so. As they say, hip hop is an American thing but so is rock & roll so anything can happen. Look at Roots Manuver - he cracked the states because he brought something different to the table and came with a different sound. But it could be like selling ice to Eskimos
Access All Areas.net.au: Who do you think will win: Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? Resin Dogs: Do we really want another Clinton in the white house? Who knows what sort of freaky stuff she will get up to in the oval office, especially the way she has been trashing Obama. Let’s not forget she use to be a Real Estate agent that was caught out doing scams while Bill was in office, so I guess the devil will win in the end. I was actually thinking Kanye would have a good chance as he’s the most popular person on the planet and he also dresses better.

| Biography | Mixing live music, turntables and guest MCs, Resin Dogs produce a mash up of sounds; modern hip hop is drenched with breakbeat, dance hall, dub and funk. In the revolutionary spirit of hip hop they have created their own style.
Two singles were dropped during this time - Set It Off featuring underground legend Abstract Rude from the USA, and Take Off with Sydney’s Good Buddha called in for vocal duties. Their second album Hi Fidelity Dirt was released in 2003 and saw Resin Dogs build on collaborative efforts of the past couple years with guesting MCs including LA’s The Pharcyde (Shut Yo Mouth)and UK’s Spikey Tee (Adore You).
Critical acclaim for Resin Dogs culminated when they scooped the Australian Dance Music Awards in three consecutive years - Best Hip Hop Act in 2001 and Best Live Act in 2002 and 2003.
Perennial festival favourites they have performed at all major Australian music events - Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Byron Bay Blues & Roots, Meredith Music Festival, Livid, Good Vibrations, Homebake, Woodford Folk Festival, Vibes on a Summer’s Day and have proudly hit the stage at Big Day Out for seven years. Amid the Aussie festivals and tours Resin Dogs have toured nationally with international artists Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Ozomatli, Kenny Dope, Roots Manuva and Grandmaster Flash to list a few.
In 2004 the Resin Dogs started taking their sounds overseas with sell-out shows at some of the UK’s hottest clubs inc Fabric, Cargo and Carling Academy’s also showcases in the United States and performances at top European music festivals - Womad Reading UK, Head Lined the Wan 2 Stage at the Sziget Festival in Hungary and Head lined Main stage at the Colours Of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. And with 6 self promoted tours under their belt they are set to return to the scene in 2008 bigger then ever to support the release of their 3rd album ‘MORE’. Resin Dogs line up is more than just the core members as there are a number of co-conspirators who join the band for live events and studio sessions. MC DNO, Abstract Rude(ATU), and an impressive line up of guest breakers, MC’s and live players is what makes any Resin Dogs show an experience and their recordings so highly prized. The bands live shows are approached as one big party and the Dogs feed off the crowd. The more people go wild, the more Dogs keep doing what they do and then some, being the first live band in the world to incorporate DVDJ’s into their show also makes their shows a visual experience. Having impressed many of the visiting international DJs the band are also sought after collaborators. Too many to list them all, recent collaborators include The Nextmen Abstract Rude (Abstract Tribe Unique) Aceyalone (Project Blowed), Mikha9 (Freestyle Fellowship), Mystro, Renee Geyer, Robert Reed (Trouble Funk), The Pharcyde, Jungle Brothers, Mad Doctor X, Kenny Dope, Spikey Tee, Blue Rum 13, Demolition Man, Young Gun, Fiercely true to their independent roots Hydrofunk Records is once again home to the Resin Dogs and the established base for their many side projects. A force in its own right Hydrofunk has become one of Australia’s strongest independent hip hop labels. In a rarity for Australian hip hop Resin Dogs release their music in Britain, through Jalapeno Records, and also hold various licensing arrangements around the world allowing them to record and release music created especially for the region. With most of the sounds now coming from the home studio the focus is on playing more live music and working with other musicians. It’s a process that started on the second album Hi Fidelity Dirt, and has come to the forefront on their third album ‘MORE’ released in November 2007.
Definition is the first single from the new album is was released world wide through IODA following its feature on the FIFA 2006 World Cup EA GAMES which sold in excess of 10,000,000 copies. The track is a funky Latin-flavoured slab of Hip Hop beats. Resin Dogs collaborate with ARIA award winning MC Hau (Koolism) and Mystro (Lowlife Records, UK) on the single. Resin Dogs once again up the ante bringing home the international flavours from their overseas touring. The second single ‘Coming With The Sound ‘Feat Haiku D’etat hit Australia in November enjoying High rotation and Most requested on JJJ and also seeing the Resin Dogs make their way on to commercial radio nation wide. With the assistance of UK hip hop heavyweight Brad Baloo of The Nextmen, who also co-producing their album, Resin Dogs third album ‘MORE’ has marked the band’s evolution over the past ten years.
With their recent signing to Premier Artists roster, the Resin Dogs are set to return to the live arena in Australia in fine style throughout ‘08 and ‘09. Whilst still honouring their overseas commitments with a run of shows in USA throughout May and an extensive European tour from June to September |
