ARTIST INTERVIEW
Access All Areas.net.au:: How do you classify the music of MGF:?
MGF:: I don't if I can help it!

Access All Areas.net.au:: You're new album is titled MGF: on Ice, I guess firstly can you tell us how the title of the album came about?
MGF:: I don't know - I thought it up one day, I think we were discussing Disney on ice and I said we should call the next album Machine Gun Fellatio on Ice and he laughed and he thought it was amusing and then went away and got serious about it. We are a circus, travelling around on the road is like travelling with a circus. I thought it captured trying to get that sense of a show and a big one at that.

Access All Areas.net.au:: Can you tell us about your new album for those who havnt yet had a chance to hear it?
MGF:: It was a much longer recording process, and we had a lot more time to do it. I had moved to Melbourne after the making of the last record so it was a different kind or recording, I wasn't around for a lot of this one so it lots of singing form the girls on this.
MGF:: I think there was a lot more commonly effort - more of a band effort on this album than the last, the last were done by 1 or 2 of us and this record is a lot more of everybody contributing something.

Access All Areas.net.au:: One thing I love about MGF: is the creativity behind your video's and album covers etc and the not afraid of being different vibe you give off in these. Who is it that comes up with these idea's?
MGF:: Thankyou! I do our videos and a guy call Pete does the artwork for our cd's but very much it is guided by myself. We tend to do everything in house we don't branch out mainly because we're all control freaks.

Access All Areas.net.au:: You've toured in Ireland, Scotland, England and the US, how have the outside world treated you guys and your music?
MGF:: It has been good for the people who come to the shows but it is hard to get people in. Once you get them to come to a show everyone loves it or if you can get them to listen to the album, they love it. We've been getting a very good response in the states, England is much tougher though because it is more a conservative scene believe it or not. The hardest thing was radio because they are very conservative and very straight and don't like to play anything unless it's been a hit somewhere else. It is so heavily formatted, particularly in UK.

Access All Areas.net.au:: What would you be doing if you weren't in MGF:?
MGF:: Oh f**k! I'd be broke! I don't know probably doing something else - depends. I do a fair bit of writing in my other life.

Access All Areas.net.au:: Will you be touring this new album?
MGF:: Yeah! November, mid November - give the fans a chance to stick with the album for a couple weeks then launch ourselves.

Access All Areas.net.au:: When a fan goes to a MGF: show, what can they expect?
MGF:: Wow! I think we're a lot rockier than we used to be, we used to be very cabaret, but its becoming a lot more rockier - we tend to try and create something very visual which we're thinking up for next show which is hard, firstly transporting it but at same time we don't want them to come to show and we don't want to just play songs we want to make it visual. I try to put on a visual display as much as possible… not sure what that will be for next show.

Access All Areas.net.au:: Outside of touring, what is it that you like to do?
MGF:: Umm I like to sleep cause you don't get any on the road very much. I am very much a home body, I tend to hibernate and try to hang out in my house. I just adopted a cat that is really cute but really disturbed so I am kind of watching the cat a lot. Her name is Pauli.

Access All Areas.net.au:: This creativity even leaks in to your songs which in itself can be proved through songs like 'You've Ruined all my favourite songs' 'pull over' and even your previous works Mutha Fukka On A Motorcycle and The Girl Of My Dreams Is Giving Me Nightmares, among others, where does it all come from: personal experiences, visualisation?
MGF:: I don't think so, I think we have different types of songs, we do have songs that come from personal experiences, with Pull Over, it's very interesting you mention that song, that is a song about New York and we toured there and the song was written about that experience about being in New York, that was kind of a personal experience, but then a song like Mutha Fukka was just song that bounced out of our head and we're not quite sure what they mean. Certain songs you don't know what its about and it just writes itself.
MGF:: On the new album a song called The Growing is our attempt to write a western song. Sometimes its fun to imagine a fictional situation and dream up someone and start with a character and that song is about a women who goes to jail and gets out and comes back to get together with her lover who has been waiting for her to get out and the day before she get's home he kills himself.

Access All Areas.net.au:: Over the past year MGF: have been fairly quiet, what have you guys been up to?
MGF:: We've been touring non-stop for four years and only just got off the road 2 weeks ago. Now we're devising a new show for the next tour.

Access All Areas.net.au:: MGF: were announced as support act for the huge Robbie Williams shows last year in Sydney and Melbourne and performing in front of stadium crowds, what was that like?
MGF:: Loved it! Yeah definitely for me. Its amazing how rapidly you get used to it. Its wierd! He was really good to tour with.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Machine Gun Fellatio are an alternative Australian band, recording and playing music of large range of styles. They were formed in 1997 by three of their current line up.

The first release was a collection of songs by themselves and two other bands - The Libertines and Limebunny. The three groups weren't completely separate - there was some overlap between members.

 My Festival Experience

Funeral For A Friend
Well I guess the most memorable would be in 2005 when we played the first Australian Taste Of Chaos festival. It was the first night in Perth & the venue was like five or seven thousand & we were sure we’d be pretty unknown. We got up on stage & started playing & then we noticed the crowd & saw that pretty much everyone was singing the songs & we were like “did we sell all our cds in perth or something?”, so that was pretty memorable for me personally. Also playing the Warped tour in America, its like a 2 month travelling township or something, you play shows go hang out & then travel like a thousand miles & start over. There’s been other experiences, but those are probably the standouts for me.

Ideal Lineup?
Well for me I would have to say Nine Inch Nails who I saw at Redding the other year when they played before The Smashing Pumpkins. The set was just amazing & I’m not really even a fan of the band, but the set was just something they really play great. Also I’d probably say Killswitch Engage they are a great band & are good friends of mine, we toured Australia with them on our first tour & made good friends with them & yeah they just play great music & are great musicians I guess. There’s others I think but those would be the 2 I’d say off the top of my head.

Tips for attending Music Festivals?
Well I guess just drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, stay out of the way of trouble & really just look after yourself & anyone who gets in trouble that you know & you should have a pretty good day.
