| Interview | Access All Areas.net.au: How did the band get together? Highroad No. 28: I started the band by myself in 1998, and, since then, it's been a struggle. But that is a great thing. Attrition makes me stronger.
Access All Areas.net.au: How would you describe your sound? Highroad No. 28: Eclectic. Our sound reflects the ebbs and flows of the fundamental laws of the universe.
Access All Areas.net.au: Who would you cite as influences? Too many to list. Anything, by perforce, has been an influence on me/us in some way.
Access All Areas.net.au: 3 Classic albums that have moulded the band/artist? Highroad No. 28: See above.
Access All Areas.net.au: What influenced you to get into music? Highroad No. 28: The love of music and creation.
Access All Areas.net.au: Dream band to tour/work with? Highroad No. 28: Feeder.
Access All Areas.net.au: Are there any stories from touring or on stage antics that you can tell us about? Highroad No. 28: Yeah! Certain members flipping out (literally) on stage. Calling ambulances. Seeing each other in compromising positions.
Access All Areas.net.au: If there was one message you would like your music to get across, what would it be? Highroad No. 28: To give more to other human beings in this world and to not expect anything in return. To remember, as much as possible, all the things we can be grateful for. To know that, in spite of all the suffering, torment, and torture in this world, and the natural tendency of this universe toward entropy, we can always manipulate our behaviour and perceptions for the better of oursleves and all. Finally, to soldier on bravely, in spite of our own personal battles and sorrows, and to use pain as a source of wisdom and strength. |
| Biography | "Highroad No. 28 exemplifies all that affirms life, and the quality of perseverance in the face of grave adversity. It is a force that embodies the very fundaments of the universe: chaos, change, endurance and energy." So says Andrew J. Cantwell, Highroad No. 28 main man and sole founder. He, along with Marc E. and Pep Tambasco and Andy Breese make up this "force"/band Highroad No. 28.
Since the bands beginnings in late 1998, they have released two EP's: Obscure Madness (1999), and Dynamic Introspection (2002). Both EP's are testament to the determination, perseverance and affliction inherent to the band." Those two EP's are replete with anguish, terror, and pain, but throughout the songs there is the unequivocal element of endurance and 'die-hard, never-give-in' attitude" states Andrew further.
After a plethora of live shows from 2003 - 2005, the band released their debut album "Unsteady and Steady State" on December 8th. "The album is somewhat of a musical departure from our earlier two EP's," states Andrew. "Musically, their is much more melody, effects, and colourful sounds... lyrically their will be songs which contain subject matter which is upbeat, gleeful and happy, but this 'light' lyrical side will be kept in check by some very painful personal lyrics... yet, even these retain the 'never-give-in' attitude aforementioned. In summary, these lyrics exemplify all the seasons of life."
2006 has seen the band solidifying a formidable live show, playing a plethora of Sydney shows, national touring and endless promotion, both and National and International of "Unsteady and Steady State".
2007 promises to be a very significant year with the band. In addition to further National touring, Highroad No. 28 intend an overseas tour, a single release (a video clip) and will enter the studio for pre-production of the 2nd album. Highroad No. 28: the band that will never break up.
Highroad No. 28: A force to be reckoned with...
