Interview
Access All Areas.net.au: Now the band is touring Australia in late March. What can we expect from your shows?
Ville: Well we’ve only been to Australia once before, so Australian crowds have only seen us live a little bit. It will just be our proggy, doomy kind of music. We’ve just released our new album, so most of the content will be from that. Most of our sets go for about 1 hour and 40 mins, which gives a good night of music. Recently we’ve been playing ‘Sleepwalker’, which goes for about 10 minutes. It’s like Black Sabbath meets Jane’s Addiction.

Access All Areas.net.au: On March 9th, it was World Heartagram Day. What actually happens on Heartagram Day?
Ville: That was actually made up by our record company. Just making money off the band. It’s something done outside of the band, so we’re not really that involved. It’s cool, but it’s not us organising it.

Access All Areas.net.au: The band has a very loyal fan base all across the world. What do you think it is that makes your fans so loyal?
Ville: That’s a tough question man. I’m still a big fan of some of the bands that I used to follow. I always collected stuff about certain bands. Some things you just can’t predict or buy with money. We’re really lucky with our following. I don’t know what the reason is, but we’re really appreciative of our followers.

Access All Areas.net.au: The band has been around for 16 or 17 years now. How are things kept fresh between the band?
Ville: Music keeps us fresh. Working really hard and heavy keeps us busy and our minds occupied with stuff. We are 31 now and were 15 or 16 when the band started. We’ve changed as people, but essentially are still the same. Some people are married and have kids, but music is the one constant in our life.

Access All Areas.net.au: You guys are nominated for a Grammy this year. How do you think we will go?
Ville: Being nominated is just a great thing in itself. We were really surprised when we heard. It is for artwork, so it’s a shame that it’s not for our music. The artwork was done by a good friend of ours called Matt Taylor, so that’s cool. His artwork is paying off for everyone. Being nominated is just great in itself.

Access All Areas.net.au: What are currently listening to?
Ville: A lot of reggae at the moment. I’ve also been listening to a band called Electric Wizard. It’s really exciting to listen to.

Access All Areas.net.au: Who is someone that you guys would love to tour with?
Ville: We’ve just completed doing a lot of touring. We’re playing some shows in Europe soon, which will be awesome. We’re playing a show or two soon with Black Sabbath, which is amazing. We grew up on, so it’s just so great.

Biography
In the Autumn of 2006 H.I.M descended upon the East Coast of Australia. Thousands of fans were left devastated as all concerts had sold out within days.

In the Autumn of 2008, H.I.M will be returning to Australia and make no mistake tickets for the Finnish maestros will be an even hotter item!

H.I.M’s sixth studio album ‘Venus Doom’ has just been released ‘and the result may be the year's heaviest, creepiest, and sexiest hard-rock group effort’ – Spin. The follow up to the platinum selling ‘Dark Light’, ‘Venus Doom’ sees H.I.M rocking with fury and efficiency with Ville’s stunning vocals and lyrical poetry moving from raging wail to deep baritone with ease.

The masters of dark atmospheric music, H.I.M re-defined the gothic rock/metal movement completely and no one comes close to their heavy, ethereal sounds.
