ARTIST INTERVIEW
Access All Areas.net.au: Hey Zoltan, how’s it going?
FFDP – Zoltan: Hey Ben, i’m doing fine thankyou, just at home today.

Access All Areas.net.au: Whats been happening for the band lately?
FFDP – Zoltan: We’ve been hard at work at our second record, we’re hoping to have it out around late august so we’re currently just spending all our time working on that & then we head out on tour.

Access All Areas.net.au: As you mentioned, you are working on the new record, did you guys spend much time writing for this new record?
FFDP – Zoltan: We took a couple months out to sit down & write some material, we took the necessary time & wrote some great songs, we feel they are where the band is wanting to head to musically & we’re just now working hard putting them together in the studio.

Access All Areas.net.au: Musically, have you kept to the thrash metal style or taken a new direction?
FFDP – Zoltan: We really didn’t have a direction for this or our previous record, we just focused on writing good songs... we feel thats the point of music in putting together a good song. We are influenced by 80’s bands who really didn’t have much musical direction they just wrote the great songs & just threw something together to fit the song & thats how we work as well. We ended up doing a very thrash sounding record last time & we’re getting a similar style to this record, but we’ll progress & mature as we’re a more experienced band.

Access All Areas.net.au: With the previous record, you had a real sense of success, was this a surprise to the band?
FFDP – Zoltan: Well it was a gradual rise i feel, we put the record together ourselves & then we had the label pick it up & put it out & then people took notice & things took off. We were given a lot of opportunites, playing some great tours & festivals, so we just took our time moving up & now we feel the success is a natural thing with our band as we’ve made our way up to be a band in the metal genre & we hope this continues as we love playing to our many fans.

Access All Areas.net.au: You have had a lot of touring opportunities, any that have stood out for you?
FFDP – Zoltan: Well we got lucky to do a couple tours when we were first coming up... we did family values & opening for Korn on their tours which was amazing... we followed that up by joining Disturbed out on tour & those guys helped us become a touring band. We had a great time doing Mayhem in 2008 with other amazing bands like Slipknot, Mastodon & others... one great band from Mayhem was Australia’s Airborne who showed us a great time... so we’ve had some great tours with bands & others by ourselves.

Access All Areas.net.au: When you had your first headline tour, was it daunting at all or were you fine with it?
FFDP – Zoltan: Well having the experience from touring with Korn & gathering fans from these tours we felt we were ready & found ourselves not having any problems being the headliner of the show. We have done a few headline tours now & we enjoy each and every chance we get to do so as we love playing metal to as many people as we can.

Access All Areas.net.au: You are coming to Australia for a tour in August, are you excited?
FFDP – Zoltan: Yeah, this will be great, it will be our first time there as a band & for ourselves as well so its exciting. We come down there around the time the record comes out we’re working on now so we’ll be in a great country to celebrate our new release while playing shows to the many fans we have in Australia.

Access All Areas.net.au: With the tour, as it is close to the new release, will there be new songs played or just the old material as its the first tour?
FFDP – Zoltan: Well we have thought about this & we feel to play new material to a country we haven’t played before wouldn’t be right as it would prevent us from playing the material from the earlier releases which we haven’t toured on. We wouldn’t want our Australian fans to miss out on hearing the material they became fans of us from, so we’re going to play that & then hopefully in the nearest opportunity come back to tour again & play some new material... hopefully on a bigger tour.

Access All Areas.net.au: Whats coming up for the band in the near future?
FFDP – Zoltan: Well we have this record to finish & then we just tour all around the world to help support & sell the record.

Access All Areas.net.au: Well Zoltan, thanks for your time, all the best with the record & your time in Australia, bye.
FFDP – Zoltan: Thanks Ben, bye.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
No bells, no whistles...just straight-ahead bludgeoning metal. Playing a vintage style of thrash and groove, Five Finger Death Punch have been pummelling audiences since their inception in 2005.

Garnering their name from the Kill Bill movies, Five Finger Death Punch released their debut album ‘Way Of The Fist’ in 2007 bringing to life a brawling, burly metal monstrosity that flattens the listener more like a piece of heavy industrial machinery than a fist. Listening to ‘The Way of the Fist’ ”is the musical equivalent of going 10 rounds in a heavyweight fight. The record should come with a spit bucket and a cutman to patch up the listener between songs.” – Live Metal.net

A number of bands (Shadows Fall and Trivium foremost among them) have harkened back to metal’s glory days on their latest albums trying to resurrect the sounds of Slayer, Iron Maiden and early Metallica. “None has done it as brilliantly as Five Finger Death Punch.” – Blistering Magazine

This August see why Metal Edge calls Five Finger Death Punch “the sound of violent exhilaration, giving contemporary metal a belligerent shove in an exciting direction.”

 My Festival Experience

MM9
Your most memorable Festival moment or experience?
I think playing at the Open Arms Festival last year in Coffs Harbour. The day was ridiculously hot right up until we hit the stage and just then a massive storm rolled in and it poured throughout our set. Everyone just went with it, got soaked and went crazy and as soon as we played our last note, the storm was gone. It was a surreal.

Favourite Artist you’ve seen at a Music Festival?
Ah there's been so many, that's way too hard! I'd have to say Pendulum, Nirvana, Sigur Ros, Ministry, or Daft Punk.

What’s your ideal Festival line-up?
Ha ha, see the answer above and add MM9!!!

What are your tips for attending Music Festivals?
Sunscreen, plenty of water, and go and watch something that you've never seen or heard before!
