ARTIST INTERVIEW
Access All Areas.net.au: Had a listen to your new single Don't Say a Word and it's a great follow up to your first single?
Emmanuel Carella: Yeah well the first single was a bit poppier than the second one.

Access All Areas.net.au: Yeah I noticed that - you've sort of gone from a pure pop to more of a rock-pop sound?
Emmanuel Carella: Just a bit but there's still kind of a melody but yeah we though we'd go with a harder edge and see how that goes down and some people have gone yeah cool and some have gone awwww. You kind of get that and you kind of have to experience that that's the risk sometimes.

Access All Areas.net.au: The charting position that you got for this second single certainly says a lot?
Emmanuel Carella: Ohh I was totally stoked I couldn't believe it. 2Beautiful debuted at number 30 and so for Don't Say A Word to come in at number 14 was like oh my god - it was pretty exciting. I was wrapped - I was so excited.

Access All Areas.net.au: Can you describe what your new single 'Don't Say A Word' is about?
Emmanuel Carella: Definitely! Its about hidden love. It's about a couple being together and not being able to express their feeling to their family or friends or anybody and pretty much just a song to say you can fall in love with whoever you like or you can like whoever you like. We're all human beings, we've all got arms and legs and eyes and everything - as long as you're in love with that person and you find them attractive, you know what I mean? You can be who ever you like.

Access All Areas.net.au: Would you say your songwriting to date has been from previous life experiences or from observation?
Emmanuel Carella: A bit of both. I like writing a lot about personal experiences and what I've been through. With 'Don't Say A Word' I havnt actually been through it but I've had friends been through it and I've in so many ways try to help them to help overcome what they were going through and giving them advise as much to my knowledge as I can. With '2Beautiful' I definitely experienced that - being the intimidated person going up to girls asking them out or even saying hi and I think that most people go through that intimidation stage or that kind of stuff. But, yeah, I've been writing since I was 14 and havn't stopped. My brain is full of words. I walk the streets and Im like damn I need to write something down [laughs] so yeah.

Access All Areas.net.au: You carry a Dictaphone around with you or pen and note pad?
Emmanuel Carella: I do I do! It's an amazing thing - and people kind of look at you and think what the hell's he doing. Yeah Ive had a few weird looks but never mind [laughs].

Access All Areas.net.au: But you're the one laughing now!
Emmanuel Carella: [laughs] exactly!

Access All Areas.net.au: You did 40 instores in 21 days - that must be a record there - you must have been pretty exhauseted by the end of it?
Emmanuel Carella: I was actually because once I finished I had a couple of day sort of rest and catch up with my brain and while I was doing it it was so much fun. It was just like travelling to different states of Australia and meet different people and doing two or three instores a day… it was very tiring because in between all that I was doing other promo stuff like tv and interviews and the whole shebang and it was a great experience and I cant wait to do it again [laughs] probably not so many though.

Access All Areas.net.au: As I said earlier you did the 21 days of instores, you've appeared on almost every tv program, performed at the Fox FM rooftop party in Melbourne and this weekend you fly out to Perth for the Telethon. Since the release of the single, you've been a very busy boy, have you had a day off or even some time for rest?
Emmanuel Carella: I have yes thank god. It has been great. I caught a movie the other night, I saw Pirates from the Caribbean and went with a couple of friends and it's a fantastic movie but yeah I have had time to sit down and think about what I've done and what's coming up and sort of psyching myself up which is good which isn't hard for me to do.

Access All Areas.net.au: You're touring with Christina Aguilera at the end of the year labelled as the hottest concert this year and every venue sold out - what a gig to get??
Emmanuel Carella: Oh my god! That's the first thing I said when they asked me to do it and it was like no you guys are kidding me. I can't be doing this [laughs]. I was screaming at the top of my lungs going what do you mean! I cannot wait to begin that tour. It's so huge for me to be able to do anything like this and just for myself and I cant believe its happened so quick. For me to be doing something like this, so big and Christina - Im one of her biggest fans, I absolutely love her to death. I cant wait to get started to get on stage and tour and stuff. To be on a big stage will be kind of weird [laughs].

Access All Areas.net.au: Are you at all nervous about the thought of performing in front of that many people?
Emmanuel Carella: I am and Im not - Im definitely nervous but the thing is I love performing and I love being in front of a crowd singing songs and doing the whole performance thing. Once you get me on stage you cant get me off so I don't know how they're going to get me off [laughs] but its going to be different - it's going to be huge. It's something I havn't experienced yet so once I do the first show I'll let you know.

Access All Areas.net.au: When can we expect a headlining tour from you?
Emmanuel Carella: Well probably when the album's out next year. Beginning of next year the album's going to be released and yeah that is one of my goals to have a headline kind of thing. If it doesn't happen for the next couple of years though that's cool - Ill just keep doing what Im doing. I love playing pubs and clubs and all that kind of stuff as well - just any opportunity to be on stage is awesome.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
He was one of 2003's brightest new stars.

His debut single, 2Beautiful, spent three months in the Top 40, and the follow-up, Don't Say A Word, was a Top 10 smash, hitting number seven. And then he went on the road with Christina Aguilera.

And then ...

Emmanuel Carella took some time out.

"I had a year to grow up, mature, and experience different things," Emmanuel says.

He spent his time travelling the world, working with as many songwriters as he could. The first result is the stunning new single, Run To Me, one of the year's most beautiful songs.

If I fall down on my knees

Will you run to me?

Emmanuel wrote Run To Me in Sweden with hit-maker Arnthor Birgisson, who has worked with Jessica Simpson, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Janet Jackson.

"I'd had the lyrics for a while," Emmanuel explains, "it was something I'd been wanting to express for a long time."

The chemistry between us, it will never die

"It's a very emotional song, about reassuring someone you love that you'll always be there for them, through good times and bad. It's about not being afraid to show your emotions, and always speaking the truth."

How could I live alone?

Without you there would be no home

Run To Me's B-side, Touching Wood, shows another side to Emmanuel - playful, with mention of Jerry Springer and Brooke Shields. "I'm not scared to try different things," smiles Emmanuel, who wrote 40 songs for his debut album, which will be out later this year.

He knows it's been a long time coming, but says: "It's all me, it's what I feel and who I am."

And he's got a message for his fans:
"Thank you for waiting."
But as they say, good things come ...

 My Festival Experience

Funeral For A Friend
Well I guess the most memorable would be in 2005 when we played the first Australian Taste Of Chaos festival. It was the first night in Perth & the venue was like five or seven thousand & we were sure we’d be pretty unknown. We got up on stage & started playing & then we noticed the crowd & saw that pretty much everyone was singing the songs & we were like “did we sell all our cds in perth or something?”, so that was pretty memorable for me personally. Also playing the Warped tour in America, its like a 2 month travelling township or something, you play shows go hang out & then travel like a thousand miles & start over. There’s been other experiences, but those are probably the standouts for me.

Ideal Lineup?
Well for me I would have to say Nine Inch Nails who I saw at Redding the other year when they played before The Smashing Pumpkins. The set was just amazing & I’m not really even a fan of the band, but the set was just something they really play great. Also I’d probably say Killswitch Engage they are a great band & are good friends of mine, we toured Australia with them on our first tour & made good friends with them & yeah they just play great music & are great musicians I guess. There’s others I think but those would be the 2 I’d say off the top of my head.

Tips for attending Music Festivals?
Well I guess just drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, stay out of the way of trouble & really just look after yourself & anyone who gets in trouble that you know & you should have a pretty good day.
