ARTIST INTERVIEW
Access All Areas.net.au: Hey Jesse, How’s It Going?
EODM - Jesse: Hey man, things are great, I’m just hanging out in Hollywood.

Access All Areas.net.au: You are currently releasing your third & current album “heart on” & about to tour in support, how are you guys doing with everything kicking back in with the band?
EODM - Jesse: Yeah it’s all great, our new album is out today, I’m actually going to go & get a copy to help it go as far up the charts as I can. We’ve done some really hard work over the last 6 months working on this record & we feel we’ve come up with something that really shows what we have to offer for our fans, so its all exciting times man.

Access All Areas.net.au: Now with working on the record, as your fellow band member Josh Homme was touring with his band & you doing all your projects, was it difficult at all to come back together to work on the new record?
EODM - Jesse: Well for me it was easy really as me & Josh are really like one. He’s one of my best friends & we love making music together, so it wasn’t really a break. I always was working on the new material & we shared ideas around & when he got things finished up with his band it was all go with eagles so things really just kicked back in really smoothly & we got to work on the new record.

Access All Areas.net.au: Now with writing for this record, did you look to take any different approaches you may not have taken for Heart On which you may not have looked at taking on your previous records?
EODM - Jesse: Well the songs I’ve written on this new record really are the most difficult I’ve ever done & it’s not fun to say that. On the record, there’s songs written about different experiences & drugs & time spent in los angeles, so there’s a range of topics that I looked to when writing for the record. I feel the songs on the record reflect the times I’ve spent over the last couple years & where we’ve come to & I feel that we’ve come up with some pretty damn good songs.

Access All Areas.net.au: Now with the album, musically, did you look to change anything up with the sound of the band or were you looking to progress the sound you are known for?
EODM - Jesse: With this record, we were definitely looking to progress, but not in the way you’d think. We’ve done some really diverse things with the songs & we have looked to really step up on our instruments & for me it’s difficult as I really feel I suck when it comes to playing. With this record, musically I’m playing guitar now so much better than I was on the last 2 records & I’m now contributing a lot to work alongside what Josh is doing musically. We like the type of music we play, it’s fun you know & it’s different to what either of us are usually doing so we really love playing in the band & I’m sure this love will continue for a while to come.

Access All Areas.net.au: With the production of the record, the work was mainly done by band member Josh Homme. Do you feel this has had a personal influence to the sound of the new record?
EODM - Jesse: Well not really as Josh has done the production on all the records. This time however, I did some of the production for a couple tracks to give a different spin on how our tracks could sound. We have really similar directions in music for our band, so the way the music comes out from production is always something we are both happy with & this really seems to work well by us, so we’ve stuck with it for this record.

Access All Areas.net.au: Now the new record has had one single released so far, in the track “Wannabe In LA”, can you tell me a little about this one?
EODM - Jesse: Well it’s kind of an ironic kind of song, as I found myself in Hollywood the one place I had always loathed & didn’t want to end up in as a musician. I think the song was a good way of getting out some frustrations I’ve had to deal with while living here in LA & it just seemed like the right song to release as a single, so we went with it.

Access All Areas.net.au: Now on the live front have you done many shows to promote the new record & have you received any good responses to the new material?
EODM - Jesse: Yeah, we’ve done a few things around the place & we’ve had some good responses to our songs from the shows. We’re about to go on a tour to support the new album & we’ll be playing the majority of the new album while touring, so hopefully we get some good response while playing these shows in the future.

Access All Areas.net.au: Now the big question, is can we expect to see Eagles Of Death Metal back in Australia in the near future?
EODM - Jesse: Yeah, definitely, the first chance we get we are there. I absolutely love Australia & honestly, I don’t play with any equipment that’s not by an Australian company. I think we will be coming in early 2009 & I’m looking forward to getting down to play some shows, take off around the country in a ute & please as many of your women as possible.

Access All Areas.net.au: Well then it looks like we can expect you here soon, will you be playing much new material down here for the aussie fans?
EODM - Jesse: Yeah, we’d be looking to play the majority of the record & of course the old favourites for our aussie fans. I’m looking forward to the shows so much & hopefully all our fans come out as it’s going to be something not to miss when we get down there.

Access All Areas.net.au: Well Jesse, it’s been a pleasure speaking with you, I’d just like to thankyou for your time & hope you have a nice day.
EODM - Jesse: Yeah thanks man, I hope everyone of our fans down there enjoys our new record & we’ll see you all soon.

 My Festival Experience

Funeral For A Friend
Well I guess the most memorable would be in 2005 when we played the first Australian Taste Of Chaos festival. It was the first night in Perth & the venue was like five or seven thousand & we were sure we’d be pretty unknown. We got up on stage & started playing & then we noticed the crowd & saw that pretty much everyone was singing the songs & we were like “did we sell all our cds in perth or something?”, so that was pretty memorable for me personally. Also playing the Warped tour in America, its like a 2 month travelling township or something, you play shows go hang out & then travel like a thousand miles & start over. There’s been other experiences, but those are probably the standouts for me.

Ideal Lineup?
Well for me I would have to say Nine Inch Nails who I saw at Redding the other year when they played before The Smashing Pumpkins. The set was just amazing & I’m not really even a fan of the band, but the set was just something they really play great. Also I’d probably say Killswitch Engage they are a great band & are good friends of mine, we toured Australia with them on our first tour & made good friends with them & yeah they just play great music & are great musicians I guess. There’s others I think but those would be the 2 I’d say off the top of my head.

Tips for attending Music Festivals?
Well I guess just drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, stay out of the way of trouble & really just look after yourself & anyone who gets in trouble that you know & you should have a pretty good day.
