ARTIST INTERVIEW
Access All Areas.net.au: With new album out and debut of Fixin to Thrill video, how would you describe this point in your music career?
Dragonette: Busy…. Anticipatory.

Access All Areas.net.au: Can you take us back to the first ever breakthrough moment for the band?
Dragonette: There were a lot of exciting jumps we made when first trying to get our band out there. But I think going across the world to countries where we weren’t on the radio or even available in stores, but still had a crowd that sang along the songs with us was when we felt like we had broken some sort of barrier.
Access All Areas.net.au: The music video for the single, Fixin to Thrill is not like any other regular video. What has inspired the direction of the video?
Dragonette: The idea came from being brought to life by imagination. And in imagination you can be anyone. You can be a superhero or a superfreak wacko with big eyebrows and a painted on body!

Access All Areas.net.au: Your album will be launched in Australia, do you feel nervous about the reviews and response from fans?
Dragonette: I guess it feels the same as putting yourself out there any other way place or time. We hope there are enough people who make us feel rad about ourselves, and what we made. But we had a pretty amazing time the first trip to Australia, so we’ll find a way back there whether you like it or not!

Access All Areas.net.au: Can you tell us about the theme behind your album?
Dragonette: If Fixin to Thrill was Dragonette’s new fashion collection, we might call it the ‘Does This Glamour Make My Ass Look Dirty? Collection’

Access All Areas.net.au: Dragonette has always seemed to have an interesting artistic vision. What’s the story behind the new album cover?
Dragonette: Ha! The cover is actually still in progress. We’d give you a sneak peak but it’s still in the magic album making device so…. You’ll have to wait

Access All Areas.net.au: The band has parted ways with label, Mercury. Is the album Fixin to Thrill a rather different project for the band, compared to Galore?
Dragonette: It might have a slightly different tilt… But I think mostly we’ve just made the next Dragonette album. More than the next Dragonette-now-that-we’re-not-with-mercury album.

Access All Areas.net.au: Which song on the album are you most proud of?
Dragonette: The ones that come out the fastest are usually what I’m most proud of.
Dragonette: Gone too Far is one of those songs. One of those songs you feel like you hardly had to write at all. It was gonna be a song no matter who wrote it.

Access All Areas.net.au: Electropop has been an increasingly popular music genre. How did you guys first fall in love with electropop music?
Dragonette: We all approach electro pop from such different angles. It’s almost like a test in plausibility. Like, “ do you think your country style can fit over this house bass track?”

Access All Areas.net.au: Do you guys ever get nervous about going on stage, and what always happens once you have wrapped up the show?
Dragonette: We’ve all got a handle on our pre-show nerves but that doesn’t stop us from needing a lot of vodka afterwards.

Access All Areas.net.au: Dan and Martina wrote and produced Grab A Hold with Cyndi Lauper for her album, was it a perfect collaboration?
Dragonette: It really sounds like, in retrospect, a song by the two of us. But when she sings it, she owns it. So I guess that means we were successful.

Access All Areas.net.au: Good luck with your music, lastly, what would you like your fans to know about Dragonette?
Dragonette: That there’s always more where that came from.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Cue June 2009, Dragonette release their debut single “Fixin To Thrill”, from their new album - already championed by Radio 1’s Pete Tong on his Essential Selection; Hype Machine #1, and the stage is set for the revolution.

This is the kind of music Britney wishes she wrote, internet bloggers hyperbolize over (google it – I dare you), musicians scream to work with (special guests on the album), and people loose their minds over.

File next to Robyn & Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but turn the lights down real low, and smear on the sleazy sexy vibe.

This is pop music in 8” stilettos, that just stole your boyfriend and is having the night of her life.

+ The name came from “A dragon in stilettos”
+ Originally formed in Canada and transported to the UK.
+ Their 2nd ever gig was supporting New Order. Their 3rd-10th was supporting Duran Duran.
+ Dan went to school with Gonzales.
+ Debut single “I Get Around” was a Hype Machine #1, remixed by Van She & Midnight Juggernaut, and top 20 in their homeland.
+ They transformed Calvin Harris’ “The Girls” into to their own tongue-in-cheek, “The Boys”,
+ Martina sang/wrote Basment Jaxx’s “Take Me Back to Your House”.
+ Made their way to Australia as part of Parklife 2008.

 My Festival Experience

All Time Low
Your most memorable Festival moment or experience?
Soundwave is amazing but we have always had a blast playing Bamboozle in New Jersey....the crowds have been insane.

Favourite Artist you’ve seen at a Music Festival?
Third Eye blind at bamboozle was insane

What’s your ideal Festival line-up?
Green Day, Blink 182, New Found Glory, All Time Low

What are your tips for attending Music Festivals?
The obvious ones are drink lots of water and bring sunscreen as the days can be long, also maybe a backpack to carry merch? That's what we used to do as kids at the warped tour, other than that just let loose and have a good time. The beauty of festivals is that you can find so many different kinds of artists and maybe even your new favorite band.
