ARTIST INTERVIEW
Cassius are pioneers of the oh so cool, French Disco sounds….. Alongside Daft Punk and Dmitri from Paris they introduced the world to a whole new genre of danceable pop music, House! In their spare time they also produce records for Phoenix, amongst others and AAA’s David Holleran caught up with them ahead of their tour.

Access All Areas.net.au: Bonjour , how are you today Phillipe…??
Cassius: Oh very good my friend, how are you David??

Access All Areas.net.au: Magnifique….
Cassius: hahahahah

Access All Areas.net.au: You looking forward to the Australian heat and summer??
Cassius: Oui Oui Oui …looking forward to getting some sun on my crazy baldhead….maybe getting on a boat with some girls….

Access All Areas.net.au: Will you play that lonely island song “Im on a boat”
Cassius: hahahahah Take a good hard look at the m**herf*c*ing boat hahah

Access All Areas.net.au: We’ve had a visit from Busy P this year and many other French artists, are the French invading with music instead of war..??
Cassius: Oui , well why not, there are so many great French artists around now, that its easy to have a constant flow. But it doesn’t seem to go the other way with artists from Australia coming here, it’s a shame…

Access All Areas.net.au: “Youth Speed Cigarettes” from the EP of the same name is carving up Australian radio and dancefloors everywhere, is there a full length Lp next year…??
Cassius: Yes we are taking our time with this record and working on it over summer. We haven’t had much time to work on our own projects with producing other artists ( Phoenix etc) So we are going to work on getting it out whilst we have the time to really get it right.

Access All Areas.net.au: You have worked with so many artists, any collaborations we can look for…??
Cassius: Well actually we only really have the beats produced so far. So we’re working on the direction of sounds and lyrics at the moment.

Access All Areas.net.au: Anyone on the wish list???
Cassius: Yeah I’d really like to get Pharrell on the record, so we’re working on that …

Access All Areas.net.au: In recent years there’s been a lot of bass heavy distortion driven ;pop and electro music. Do you think that this will continue..??
Cassius: Well I hope so. I really like it a lot. Its got almost like a dorty hip-hop groove whilst having that rock distortion but who knows if it will stay. Eventually the gilrs take over the dance floor man and you have to play what they wanna hear…C’mon they are women…

Access All Areas.net.au: Spoken like a true Frenchman….Thanks for the chat!!
Cassius: Oui, thank you David looking forward to seeing you at the shows!

Cassius have a killer EP out at the moment “Youth Speed Trouble Cigarettes” and are touring the country right across summer as part of the Field Days Festivals and Better Days in Melbourne.

 My Festival Experience

Horsell Common
As a band we played the Pyramid Rock Festival at Phillip Island last year, that was a very awesome thing to be a part of. Was so hot you felt like you were going to die but was worth every second.

Ideal Lineup?
Reading Festival 92 was a pretty unbeatable lineup, not that I was actually there. Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Mudhoney, Beastie Boys… Say no more!

Tips for attending Music Festivals?
Pace yourself, try not to one of those people passed out next to a porta-loo before the sun has even had a chance to go down. All the good stuff happens at night and you’re gonna want to remember most of it. Bands like us love to play festivals because the vibe can be incredible, so yeah… get on it and have a great time, just don’t make an arse of yourself.
